Regardless of the location, my goal is to ensure your images will have a vibrant, energetic & timeless look and feel. Fashion-savvy. Contemporary.

Your session fee is required upon booking to reserve your shoot date & time. This amount includes my photography time and talent, artistic post-processing of your images, a pre-shoot consultation, and an in-person ordering appointment. It does not include any digital files, prints or products.

SENIORS...a few more popular options:

We’ve recently discounted 3 of our most requested combinations:

$185 2-hour on-location senior photoshoot PLUS 1 hour family shoot (this option is my most requested session)

$215 TWO 2-hour on-location senior sessions held on two separate days, PLUS a mini-studio session** (the mini-studio session is perfect for taking care of school yearbook requirements - for schools that require an indoor traditional studio portrait) This is a perfect option for you if you'd like an urban shoot for one of your sessions, and a more natural setting for your second session. Many girls will pick this option if they want their hair done differently the two separate days.

$180 2-hour on-location session plus a mini-studio session to take care of the yearbook photo (for schools requiring a studio shot for the yearbook.)

**On-locations shoots are within 35 miles of the studio ($20 add-on for each 20 additional miles, round-trip)

high school senior session tips

a few planning tips…

1… be ready for the session – do not come feeling rushed.

2... girls, consider having your hair and make-up professionally done. YOU.WILL.NOT.REGRET.IT Email me for make-up artist suggestions. I cannot stress this enough. You will feel more special and beautiful, which translates to better imagery.

3...guys steer clear of big white tennis shoes.

4...for the guys and girls, layers layers layers! adding a few layers polishes your outfit. if you have no idea what this means, head over to the Gap's website and peruse their images. they show great examples of the 'layered look'. use their styling as a guide, even if you may not prefer their style of clothing. (t-shirt with jacket or zip up hoodie, shirt with decorative scarf, etc)

5...for the girls... accessorize accessorize accessorize!

6... steer clear of solid white shirts/dresses/shorts as well as solid black shirts if possible.

7...guys, ask your mom or gf or sister to tweeze those crazy brows, or head to your local salon and pay a modest fee to get a quick wax. You'll be in experienced, competent hands; totally worth it, trust me.

8… schedule your session early in the summer – sessions get booked up quickly.

9… relax and just have fun. your senior pictures express who you are, so just be yourself!

10…pick colors and clothing styles that you know you look good in. don’t bring anything that is either too big or too tight. make sure to try on your complete outfit before you come for your session. (ie Try sitting, squatting, leaning forward, etc) ask an honest friend for their opinion.

11… lay out your clothes a few days before your session; make sure you have a variety of styles and colors. with unlimited clothing changes, have some fun – go for any look you can dream of – now is your time to shine. (think: casual/comfy, dressy/classy, formal, sports attire, etc – get creative)

12… did i mention accessories? (jewelry, shoes, belts, jackets, decorative scarves, hats, etc.)

13… speak up! if there is a particular pose or look you want to achieve, please tell me; your ideas add to my energy and enthusiasm!

14… take care to not tan or bask in the sun several days prior to your shoot; sunburns and tan lines to not photograph well.

15… don’t forget your “props” – consider bringing props to show off your personality (football, artwork, running shoes, ballet shoes, saddle, team jersey, 4H ribbons, class ring, camera, if you’re a fellow photo-buff!, dog, shotgun, bow, horse) you get the idea…

16… yes, you can bring a friend, and yes they can pose with you at no extra charge.

FAQ's

HOW SOON SHOULD I BOOK MY APPOINTMENT?

It depends on the time of year. January thru April books about 2 weeks out. May through December books about 4-6 weeks out.

I’M PREGNANT. WHEN SHOULD I BOOK MY MATERNITY PORTRAITS?

I prefer to shoot maternity photos between 32 - 36 weeks of pregnancy. I want you to have a nice round belly at the time of the shoot.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT AT A NEWBORN SESSION?

Please reach out to me for my special guide to help you prepare for this beautiful portrait session! Email jenn@jenniferbatesphoto.com to request yours.

WHAT IF MY CHILD IS SICK? WHAT IF THE WEATHER IS CRUMMY?

It goes without saying, but children should be fed, rested, and healthy for our session. Hungry, tired or sick children do not make happy subjects. While we're on the topic, this applies to everyone, adults included. It is not uncommon to reschedule shoots due to sickness or weather related problems - there is NO CHARGE to reschedule. As always, as much advance notice as possible is appreciated. There is, however, a reschedule fee of $100 once a session has begun, so please make sure you're bringing healthy kids to their photoshoot.

Parents of small children, don't be alarmed if I ask you to move out-of-sight...occasionally I will ask parents to step out of view, if photographing small children (who sometimes behave better when parents are out of sight.)

If you are concerned about the weather, please call or text me (734-637-1547). If the weather looks questionable, I will always call as early as possible the morning of. Overcast and chilly does not typically kill a shoot, but it depends on the subject being photographed as well. And yes, I shoot all winter long - outdoors...in the snow. We live in Michigan, what did you expect!

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR? HOW SHOULD I DRESS MY FAMILY?

Please reach out to me at jenn@jenniferbatesphoto.com for an exclusive client-only link to my ‘What to wear’ guide!

CAN I BRING MY CAMERA?

Absolutely no cameras or video cameras allowed during sessions. (That’s what you’re paying me for, silly!) The only exception to this rule is when a senior wishes to bring theirs for a photo prop. Thank you, in advance, for honoring this request.

DO YOU SELL DIGITAL FILES?

Of course! I sell several digital options that work for most budgets and needs.

  • Your very own custom photo app for your smart phone (that you can text to friends & family

  • Low-resolution watermarked files (for use with Facebook or emailing, etc)

  • Full-resolution session CD for those interested in archiving their session files

WHEN WILL WE BE ABLE TO VIEW THE IMAGES OF OUR PORTRAITS?

Three weeks after your photoshoot you’ll come on back in to my studio to preview your portraits. During this appointment, you’ll select your favorites, place and pay for your order. All decision makers should be present during this appointment. Additional Ordering appointments can be scheduled for $100 fee (this option is for clients who require more than one Viewing/Ordering appointment.)

WILL OUR IMAGES BE POSTED ONLINE? CAN FAMILY AND FRIENDS SEE OUR PHOTOS AND ORDER REPRINTS DIRECTLY?

Because I strive to make my studio as personable as possible, I don’t automatically post your files to an online gallery. I do, however, offer a Friends & Family Online Gallery option you may purchase during your in-person ordering appointment. All online galleries have a secure shopping cart feature. *Friends & Family Galleries are only published online after your in-person ordering appointment.

HOW LONG WILL YOU KEEP MY FILES?

Non-ordered images will be removed from the system 30-days following your ordering appointment – I do not archive files which are not ordered from. All ordered images are archived for a period of 1 year.

WHEN DO I PAY FOR MY SESSION FEE AND WHAT DOES THIS COVER?

Your full session fee payment is required at the time of booking. The session fee covers the time and talent of the portrait artist. Prints & products are extra. The session fee is non-refundable but may be applied towards a rescheduled session within 6 months with a 24-48 hour cancellation.

CAN I HAVE MY ITEMS SHIPPED TO ME?

Absolutely! Pricing varies based on your order, but we can chat specifics at your Ordering appt.

WHEN IS PAYMENT DUE FOR MY ORDER?

I require 100% of your order total at the time the order is placed. Orders are non-refundable once the payment has been received. For your convenience, I accept cash, check, visa & mastercard as payment options.

WHAT IF I WANT TO MAKE A COPY OF MY IMAGE?

All images remain the property of Jennifer Bates Photography and are protected by federal copyright laws. Many people may not know that screen capturing or scanning portraits is a Federal crime. Duplication in part or whole (whether by scanning, screen capturing or reprinting) is strictly prohibited and will be prosecuted by law. Scanning is stealing; if you wouldn't steal my purse, don't steal my art. Thank you for your honesty.

WHAT IS A WALL COLLECTION?

These are collections of images that are hung together to make a statement, whether as canvas gallery wraps or custom-framed wall portraits. During our ordering appointment, I will create several collections for you, digitally, so you will be able to see beautiful groupings of portraits on your wall, true-to-scale, before you even spend a dime! I will make suggestions for you based on your home decor and the images from your shoot for a collection that will help tell your own personal story. Let’s create something beautiful!!
