THE CONSULTATION

Now that you’ve decided you would like amazing photography and one of a kind products, here’s what to do next:

Complete my contact form -or- send me an email, text, or phone me. During that conversation, we will schedule a consultation for you. jenn@jenniferbatesphoto.com or 239-207-0003

THE CONSULTATION

You know you need family portraits or maybe your high school senior is graduating, but I always like to ask, “What are you going to do with those pictures when it’s all said and done?” At Jennifer Bates Photography, we begin with the end in mind, which means, before I ever pick up the camera, I customize a plan for where and how these photos will hang in your home or the story we want to tell in your family album. Do you have a tall, skinny spot above your fireplace? I’ll create an amazing iconic image to hang there. Perhaps you want to start a family gallery incorporating older images with the new portraits you are commissioning. We can make that happen. Are you moving soon or live in a house with no wall space? Telling your family’s story in a luxurious, custom-designed album lets you capture and preserve this stage of your children’s lives. Your unique needs and concerns will be uncovered and understood during your one-on-one Consultation with me and you’ll be thrilled with the results!

A consultation kicks off the process. I want the scoop on your family and kids. What are their personalities like? Who's the rebel, the silly one, the quiet one? Understanding your family dynamics allows me to capture their personalities and their relationships as they really are.

Your every question will be answered, including:

What types of clothing photograph best.

A full understanding of the investment you’ll be making.

The most suitable areas of your home for your family portraits.

And other burning questions such as whether or not to bring the family pet (the answer is, “yes!”)

THE SHOOT

Within 3 weeks of your photoshoot, we meet back up and I show off your gorgeous images. It's very important that all decision makers are present during this time, as this is the appointment where your final decisions will be made.

As this is a time where you will want to devote your full attention (ordering appointments take between 1 and 1.5 hours), I kindly ask that you arrange for a babysitter for children under the age of 12.

At your ordering appointment I will present your images in a gorgeous slideshow, and will help you select the images, groupings, albums and frames suitable for your home, office and for gifts for friends and family. I'm trained to help you select the best images, products, and display options to suit your personal style.

Once your order is placed, please allow 3 weeks for delivery. Custom items (albums, gallery wraps) may take a few extra weeks.

Unordered images are purged from the system 30-days after your Ordering appointment.

HIGH SCHOOL SENIOR SESSION TIPS

A few planning tips…

1… Be ready for the session – do not come feeling rushed.

2... Girls, your session includes professional Hair & Makeup! Be thinking about the specific look you'd like to have during your shoot.

3...Since many of you are coming in from out-of-town for your photoshoot, try on EVERYTHING (including the respective bras) with every outfit. Try on and pack your outfits a few days in advance of your trip, to give you time to shop for any last minute undergarment or shoe, etc. The most forgotten items by far are bras (strapless) and shoes!

4...For the guys and girls, layers layers layers! adding a few layers polishes your outfit. If you have no idea what this means, head over to the Gap or White House Black Market, or Forever 21 - or wherever your 'mother ship' store is, and peruse the images on their website. Stores such as these show great examples of the 'layered look'. Use their styling as a guide, even if you may not prefer their style of clothing. (T-shirt with jacket or zip up hoodie, shirt with decorative scarf, etc) And can I just mention that hats photograph fantastically!

5...For the girls... accessorize accessorize accessorize!

6...Guys...head over to a local salon to get those brows cleaned up. (Reach out to me for a salon recommendation) It's so worth the modest fee to get a quick wax. You'll be in experienced, competent hands; totally worth it, trust me.

7… Schedule your session early – premium dates get booked up quickly.

8… Relax and just have fun. Your senior pictures express who you are, so just be yourself!

9…Pick colors and clothing styles that you know you look good in. Don’t bring anything that is either too big or too tight. make sure to try on your complete outfit before you come for your session. (ie Try sitting, squatting, leaning forward, etc) ask an honest friend for their opinion. Don't pick outfits that are all the same color. Text me pics of your selections and I'll offer my honest feedback.

10… Lay out outfits a few days before your session; make sure you have everything all good-to-go, with shoes, accessories, bras, etc. with unlimited clothing changes, have some fun – go for any look you can dream of (think: casual/comfy, dressy/classy, formal, sports jerseys, etc – get creative)

11… Did I mention accessories? (hats, jewelry, shoes, belts, jackets, decorative scarves, did I mention hats, etc.)

12… Speak up! if there is a particular pose or look you want to achieve, please tell me; your ideas add to my energy and enthusiasm!

13… Take care to not tan or bask in the sun several days prior to your shoot; sunburns and tan lines to not photograph well.

14… Don’t forget your “props” – consider bringing anything that helps show off your personality or passion (football, artwork, running shoes, ballet shoes, surf board, saddle, team jersey, 4H ribbons, class ring, camera, if you’re a fellow photo-buff!, dog, shotgun, bow, horse, makeup, paints) you get the idea…!

15… Yes, you can bring a friend, and yes they can pose with you at no extra charge!

  1. One word... Spanx. If you're a girl with a lil tummy, look into purchasing a pair of spanx. You'll feel so much more confident and comfortable. I specialize in photographing girls of all shapes and sizes, and spanx are one of my secrets. They help smooth out little tummy bumps. ;)

  2. Due to popular demand, I offer destination shoots not only around the country, but around the WORLD! It's no secret that I take a group of high school seniors to Chicago every year for a fantastic destination photoshoot. Your senior year should be one of the most memorable years in your life, and your senior pictures should be as unique as YOU!

You wanted unique senior pictures, and I am answering your call! Let's do this!!! Text Jenn, 239-207-0003 to set up your personalized consult.

PORTRAIT SESSION TIPS

A few planning tips…

1… Be ready for the session – do not come feeling rushed.

2... Ladies, (moms, grandmoms, teens) consider having your hair and make-up professionally done. YOU.WILL.NOT.REGRET.IT Email me for make-up artist suggestions. I cannot stress this enough. You will feel more special and beautiful, which translates to better imagery.

3...Guys, steer clear of big white tennis shoes and white tube socks. Wear long enough socks so that when you sit down, your sexy shins aren't showing.

4...For the guys and girls, layers layers layers! adding a few layers polishes your outfit. If you have no idea what this means, head over to the Gap or White House Black Market, or Forever 21 - or whatever your 'mother ship' store is, and peruse the images on their website. 7… Schedule your session early – premium dates get booked up quickly.

8… Relax and just have fun. If there's young kids involved, I will ask that you not discipline them during our session. Step back and let them get crazy. Any negativity will kill our shoot. Everyone's kids act up at sometime or another during the shoot, it's like they KNOW they can get away with it. LET THEM. Trust me. ps I already know you're a good parent!

9…Pick colors and clothing styles that you know you look good in. For family shoots, harmonize color families (more about this during our consultation.) Don’t bring anything that is either too big or too tight. Make sure to try on your complete outfit before you come for your session. Text me pics of your selections and I'll offer my honest feedback.

FAQ's

HOW SOON SHOULD I BOOK MY APPOINTMENT?

It depends on the time of year but I'm often booked about 2-4 weeks out. Most of my mommas-to-be book their consult & newborn shoot as soon as they find out their due date.

I’M PREGNANT. WHEN SHOULD I BOOK MY MATERNITY PORTRAITS?

I prefer to shoot maternity photos between 32 - 36 weeks of pregnancy. I want you to have a nice round belly at the time of the shoot.

WHAT IF MY CHILD IS SICK? WHAT IF THE WEATHER IS CRUMMY?

It goes without saying, but children should be fed, rested, and healthy for our session. Hungry, tired or sick children do not make happy subjects. While we're on the topic, this applies to everyone, adults included. It is not uncommon to reschedule shoots due to sickness or weather related problems - there is NO CHARGE to reschedule. As always, as much advance notice as possible is appreciated. There is, however, a reschedule fee of $100 once a session has begun, so please make sure you're bringing healthy kids to their photoshoot.

Parents of small children, don't be alarmed if I ask you to move out-of-sight...occasionally I will ask parents to step out of view, if photographing small children (who sometimes behave better when parents are out of sight.)

If you are concerned about the weather, please call or text me (239-207-0003). If the weather looks questionable, I will always call as early as possible the morning of. Overcast and chilly does not typically kill a shoot, but it depends on the subject being photographed as well. I shoot all year long, in my studio, at the beach, in your community and at all of our local parks.

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR? HOW SHOULD I DRESS MY FAMILY?

All of your "What should we wear?" questions will be answered during your one-on-one consultation. Reach out to me at jenn@jenniferbatesphoto.com or text 239-207-0003 and let's get your in-person or phone consult scheduled.

CAN I BRING MY CAMERA?

Absolutely no cameras or video cameras allowed during sessions. (That’s what you’re paying me for, silly!) The only exception to this rule is when a senior wishes to bring theirs for a photo prop. Thank you, in advance, for honoring this request.

DO YOU SELL DIGITAL FILES?

Of course! I know how important it is to my clients to share their photos with friends and family.

WHEN WILL WE BE ABLE TO VIEW THE IMAGES OF OUR PORTRAITS?

Three weeks after your photoshoot we'll get back together to preview your portraits. (If you live locally, I come directly to your home)

During this appointment, you’ll select your favorites, place and pay for your order. All decision makers should be present during this appointment. Additional Ordering appointments can be scheduled for $100 fee (this option is for clients who require more than one Viewing/Ordering appointment.)

WILL OUR IMAGES BE POSTED ONLINE? CAN FAMILY AND FRIENDS SEE OUR PHOTOS AND ORDER REPRINTS DIRECTLY?

Because I strive to make my studio as personable as possible, I don’t automatically post your files to an online gallery. I do, however, offer a Friends & Family Online Gallery option you may purchase ($150) during your in-person ordering appointment. All online galleries have a secure shopping cart feature. *Friends & Family Galleries are only published online after your in-person ordering appointment.

HOW LONG WILL YOU KEEP MY FILES?

Non-ordered images will be removed from the system 30-days following your ordering appointment – I do not archive files which are not ordered from. All ordered images are archived for a period of 1 year.

WHEN DO I PAY FOR MY SESSION FEE AND WHAT DOES THIS COVER?

A weekday / non-holiday session fee of $250 is collected at the time of booking and includes the following: * Consultation with Jenn at the studio or in your home or over the phone * Jenn's creative time to photograph your family * A professional edit of your portrait session * Custom design of portrait and gallery options for your very own wall space * Your personal Ordering Session with Jenn to select the portraits and albums for your home

Your session fee is non-refundable and does not include prints or products.

A weekend or holiday time session fee of $1350 is collected at the time of booking and includes all of the above plus a $1000 product credit that may be applied towards any purchase during your Ordering appointment.

CAN I HAVE MY ITEMS SHIPPED TO ME?

Absolutely! Pricing varies based on your order, but we can chat specifics during your Ordering appt.

WHEN IS PAYMENT DUE FOR MY ORDER?

I require 100% of your order total at the time the order is placed. Due to the custom nature of each order, orders are non-refundable once the payment has been received, however, like any reputable artisan, I fully stand by my work and strive to delight every client. For your convenience, I accept cash, check, visa & mastercard as payment options.

WHAT IF I WANT TO MAKE A COPY OF MY IMAGE?

Because every photo you purchase comes with its matching digital photo, you'll have a full-resolution copy to share and/or make additional copies of.

WHAT IS A WALL COLLECTION?

At Jennifer Bates Photography, we begin with the end in mind, and very often that translates into a beautiful grouping of portraits that make you smile every time you walk through your foyer. Wall Collections are groupings of portraits that are hung together to make a statement, whether as cluster of gallery wrapped canvases or custom-framed wall portraits. During our ordering appointment, I'll create several collections for you, digitally, so you will be able to see beautiful groupings of portraits on your wall, true-to-scale, before you even spend a dime! I will make suggestions for you based on your home decor and the images from your shoot for a collection that will help tell your own personal story. Let’s create something beautiful!!
